The Ian James Trophy was reinstated in season 2016-2017 for teams in the Premier League and Division 1. It's format starts in a group stage of 4 teams with in 4 groups. The Trophy was reinstated due to Les Hill getting back in touch with the league in December 2016. It was originally introduced by Les Hill in memory of his son who died aged 4 months in 1979. He was born with heart problems and underwent open heart surgery. He overcame this and was a thriving little boy unfortunately at 4 months old he contracted meningitis which took his life.
